MS Plates

Mild Steel (MS) Plates are flat-rolled steel sheets made from low-carbon steel, widely used in construction, fabrication, and industrial applications. These plates offer excellent strength, durability, and machinability, making them ideal for structural frameworks, shipbuilding, pressure vessels, and general engineering purposes. MS Plates are available in various thicknesses and sizes to meet different industry requirements.

MS Plates are an essential material in structural, industrial, and manufacturing applications, offering an excellent balance of strength, affordability, and versatility.

Characteristics and Composition

MS Plates are composed of mild steel with a low carbon content (typically less than 0.25%), ensuring good weldability, malleability, and machinability. The plates are manufactured through hot rolling or cold rolling processes, ensuring uniform thickness and high structural integrity. MS Plates can be further treated with galvanization or coatings for enhanced corrosion resistance.

Types of MS Plates

MS Plates come in different variations based on their applications:

  • Hot Rolled MS Plates (HR Plates): Manufactured using a hot-rolling process, these plates are suitable for structural applications.

  • Cold Rolled MS Plates (CR Plates): Feature a smoother surface and are used in precision fabrication and automotive applications.

  • Galvanized MS Plates: Coated with zinc for corrosion resistance, ideal for outdoor and marine applications.

  • Checkered MS Plates: Have a textured pattern for anti-slip applications, commonly used in industrial flooring and staircases.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Raw Material Selection: High-quality mild steel slabs are used.

  2. Heating: The steel is heated in a furnace for hot rolling.

  3. Rolling Process: The heated steel is passed through rollers to achieve the desired thickness.

  4. Cooling & Cutting: The plates are cooled and cut into standard or customized sizes.

  5. Surface Treatment (Optional): Plates may be galvanized, painted, or coated for extra durability.
