GI Pipes

GI (Galvanized Iron) Pipes are steel pipes coated with a layer of zinc to prevent corrosion and rusting. These pipes are commonly used in water supply systems, structural applications, and outdoor installations where exposure to moisture and harsh environments is a concern. The zinc coating acts as a protective barrier, extending the lifespan of the pipes and making them more durable than regular mild steel pipes.

GI pipes are widely used in industries such as plumbing, agriculture, construction, and infrastructure due to their affordability, longevity, and resistance to environmental factors. They come in different thicknesses, sizes, and coatings, such as hot-dip galvanization or electro-galvanization, depending on the required level of corrosion protection.

GI pipes are an excellent choice for applications requiring durability and resistance to rust.
Pipes

Manufacturing Process of GI Pipes

  1. Hot-Dip Galvanization: The steel pipes are dipped in molten zinc, forming a thick and durable protective layer.
  2. Electro-Galvanization: A thin layer of zinc is applied using an electrochemical process, providing moderate corrosion resistance.

Properties of GI Pipes

  1. Corrosion Resistance: The zinc coating protects the pipe from rust and environmental damage.
  2. Durability: GI pipes have a longer lifespan compared to regular steel pipes, especially in outdoor conditions.
  3. Strength & Toughness: They offer good mechanical strength, making them suitable for load-bearing applications.
  4. Weldability: Can be welded, but special care is needed to avoid damaging the zinc coating.
  5. Weather Resistance: Can withstand exposure to water, humidity, and extreme weather conditions.
  6. Smooth Surface: Reduces friction in fluid transport applications, improving efficiency.
  7.

Conclusion

GI pipes are an excellent choice for applications requiring durability and resistance to rust. Their protective zinc coating makes them ideal for plumbing, construction, and industrial uses, especially in environments with high moisture exposure. Although they have some limitations, proper installation and maintenance can extend their lifespan significantly.
